A season full of injuries has only gotten worse for the Columbus Blue Jackets, who now will be without leading goal scorer Oliver Bjorkstrand for the remainder of the season because of a fractured ankle.
Bjorkstrand's timetable for recovery is eight to 10 weeks, with just six weeks remaining in the regular season.
The Blue Jackets entered play Friday two points outside of third place in the Metropolitan Division, but they would qualify for the playoffs as a wild-card team if the season ended today.
Bjorkstrand, who has 21 goals this season and 15 assists in 49 games, was injured in Thursday's overtime defeat to the Philadelphia Flyers when he went sliding into the boards.
A decision on surgery for the 24-year old right wing will be made in the coming days.
The Blue Jackets, who have sustained a bevy of injuries all over the roster this season, added forward Calvin Thurkauf from the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League. Thurkauf had nine goals and 16 assists (25 points) in 47 games with the Monsters.
