The Cincinnati Reds called up their top prospect Elly De La Cruz on Tuesday.
In a corresponding move, third baseman Nick Senzel was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Sunday.
Signed out of the Dominican Republic as an international amateur free agent in July 2018, shortstop De La Cruz, 21, is rated the top prospect in all of baseball by ESPN and No. 4 per MLB Pipeline.
In 38 games this season with Triple-A Louisville, De La Cruz has 12 home runs and 36 RBIs. He has 11 bases and an OPS of 1.031 in 158 at-bats.
He comes to the big leagues on a hot streak, having recorded a hit in 14 of his last 15 games with the Louisville Bats.
In his minor league career, De La Cruz has compiled a .298 average with 49 home runs in 263 games.
De La Cruz is expected to be available for Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Senzel, 27, has been dealing with a right knee injury. He's hitting .258 with four home runs and 27 RBIs in 45 games this season.
