Calgary Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau is scheduled to undergo hip surgery in March and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced Thursday.
The Flames also said Huberdeau is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2026-27 season.
'After extensive evaluation, this was determined to be the best course of action for Jonathan's long-term health and performance,' Flames general manager Craig Conroy said.
'While it is difficult to lose a player of his caliber, our priority is ensuring he is fully healthy moving forward. Huberdeau has been managing hip-related symptoms throughout the season. The decision to proceed with surgery was made in collaboration with Jonathan, his representative, our medical staff, and specialists to support his long-term well being.'
Huberdeau, 32, recorded one goal in 15 minutes, 39 seconds of ice time in Calgary's 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.
He has 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists) in 50 games this season with the Flames. He is playing in the third season of an eight-year, $84 million contract extension he signed in August 2022, one month after he was acquired from Florida in a blockbuster deal that included Matthew Tkachuk heading to the Panthers.
Huberdeau has totaled 807 points (263 goals, 544 assists) in 962 career games with the Panthers and Flames. The two-time All-Star was selected with the third overall pick of the 2011 NHL Draft and was awarded the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year in 2012-13.
