Los Angeles Dodgers star shortstop Mookie Betts exited in the middle of the first inning of Saturday's game against the Washington Nationals due to right lower back pain and was slated to undergo an MRI exam on Saturday night.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Betts won't play in Sunday's series finale and will likely miss at least a couple games.
'We'll know more later,' Roberts said after the 10-5 victory. 'It's certainly more moderate than significant. So like I said, we'll know more tomorrow.'
Betts was injured while the running the bases. He drew a walk and scored on Freddie Freeman's two-run double. Betts slowly walked toward the Dodgers' dugout after scoring.
Roberts didn't want to speculate on whether Betts might require a stint on the 10-day injured list.
'I don't want to get too far ahead of what we're gonna do, but we'll see,' Roberts said. 'We'll huddle up and see if we need to get a player here to protect us, depending on how the MRI comes back. But yeah, he certainly won't be playing the next couple days, I would assume.'
Betts, 33, is batting just .179 (5-for-28) with two homers and seven RBIs in eight games.
Miguel Rojas replaced Betts at shortstop. He went 0-for-3 and drove in one run on a sacrifice fly.
