Kansas City left fielder Isaac Collins' all-out hustle resulted in a right knee contusion and forced him out of the Royals' series-opening 2-1 loss to the host Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.
In the first inning, Collins, 28, raced after a ball hit by Detroit's Kevin McGonigle and tumbled into the stands in the left field corner, with the ball eluding his glove.
Collins was checked out by Royals trainer Kyle Turner and was able to walk to the dugout with a slight limp. Tyler Tolbert replaced Collins in left.
In his first season with Kansas City, Collins is hitting .214 with one home run and four RBIs in 16 games. In parts of three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers (2024-25) and the Royals, he is a .253 hitter with 10 home runs and 58 RBIs over 157 games.
