Philadelphia Flyers forward Owen Tippett was forced to miss the team's Eastern Conference second-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes due to internal bleeding.
Tippett sustained his injuries during the Flyers' six-game series victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round. The Flyers lost all four games against the Hurricanes without Tippett, who led the team in the regular season with 28 goals.
'Following a series of medical evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation under the care of Flyers medical team, I am making progress and feeling better each day,' Tippett said Tuesday in a statement released by the team. 'Despite being cleared to travel and skate with the team at certain practices, things did not progress at a pace that I hoped for or would allow me to safely continue playing.'
Tippett, 27, recorded 23 assists and 51 points in 81 games this season with the Flyers. He had one goal and one assist in the first round against the Penguins.
Tippett has totaled 236 points (121 goals, 115 assists) in 428 career games with the Florida Panthers and Flyers. He was acquired by Philadelphia from Florida on March 19, 2022 in a deal that included then-Flyers captain Claude Giroux.
The Flyers clinched a postseason berth for the first time since 2020 after posting a 43-27-12 record (98 points), good enough for a third-place finish in the Metropolitan Division.
'I am beyond proud of what our team has accomplished this season and truly moved by the tremendous support of the fans,' he said.
'... I am confident for a full recovery and look forward to returning for training camp in September and an exciting year ahead for this organization.'
