Luke Raley and Dominic Canzone belted two-run homers during a six-run third inning, powering the Seattle Mariners to a 9-2 victory over the Athletics on Monday night at West Sacramento, Calif.
Randy Arozarena went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs while J.P. Crawford belted a solo shot as Seattle halted a two-game slide. The Mariners hit a season-best four homers for the fourth time.
Raley and Josh Naylor had two hits apiece for the Mariners, who had lost six of their previous nine games.
Nick Kurtz drew a third-inning walk against Seattle's Luis Castillo to tie the Athletics' single-season record of reaching base in 48 consecutive games, set by Mark McGwire (1996). Kurtz finished 0-for-3, including grounding into a double play.
Shea Langeliers homered for the Athletics, who lost for the third time in four games. The A's lead the American League West despite having a .500 record one-third into the season.
Seattle's Bryce Miller (1-0) gave up two runs and five hits over five innings in his first career relief appearance. He struck out four and walked none.
Mariners starter Luis Castillo permitted two hits over four shutout innings with six strikeouts and two walks before being pulled after 68 pitches with a 7-0 lead. He had a conversation throughout the top of the fifth inning with manager Dan Wilson.
The Athletics' Aaron Civale (5-2) served up three homers for the second straight start during his worst outing of the season. He allowed nine hits and a season-worst seven runs in four innings, striking out two and walking one.
The Mariners had runners on first and third with one out in the third inning when Naylor hit a possible inning-ending double play. However, second baseman Jeff McNeil's throw to first was high and Naylor was safe as Colt Emerson scored.
Arozarena followed with a run-scoring double before Raley homered to right-center to make it 4-0. Cole Young then hit a double before Canzone also put one over the wall in right-center.
In the fourth, Crawford jumped all over Civale's first pitch of the inning and hit it over the wall in center to make it 7-0.
Langeliers got the A's on the board with two outs in the eighth with a homer to center.
Naylor singled with two outs in the ninth and Arozarena followed with a two-run homer to center off Jack Perkins that traveled 437 feet.
Darell Hernaiz had two hits for the Athletics.
