Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford is day-to-day after exiting Friday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers after he was hit on the right hand by a pitch.
Crawford initially stayed in the game after he was hit by a 96-mph sinker from Detroit starter Framber Valdez in the third inning. After running the bases, though, he was replaced by Patrick Wisdom in the bottom of the third, with Colt Emerson moving from third to short.
That early exit allowed Crawford to get x-rays of his wrist, which came back negative, manager Dan Wilson told reporters after Seattle's 7-3 loss.
Crawford also appeared to sustain a lower-body injury earlier in the game, limping back to the dugout after colliding with Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler in a feet-first slide into home plate to score the game's opening run in the first inning.
Even a brief absence would be untimely for Crawford, who is hitting .333 (14-for-42) in his last 11 games with four home runs.
Crawford, 31, is hitting .228 this season with 10 homers and 23 RBIs in 55 games.
