The Philadelphia Phillies acquired veteran outfielder Derek Hill from the Chicago White Sox on Thursday for two minor leaguers, outfielder Dylan Campbell and infielder Jose Colmenares.
The Phillies, who also gained $250,000 in international bonus pool money, made room on the 40-man roster by designated right-hander Jackson Rutledge for assignment.
In a separate move, the White Sox activated outfielder Everson Pereira from the 10-day injured list after he sustained a right pectoral strain on April 28. Pereira, 22, is batting .250 with three home runs and seven RBIs in 18 games in his first season with Chicago.
Hill, 30, batted .213 (17-for-80) with four home runs and eight RBIs in 50 games this season.
He is a career .227 hitter with 18 homers and 62 RBIs in 268 games for the Detroit Tigers (2020-22), Washington Nationals (2023), Texas Rangers (2024), San Francisco Giants (2024), Miami Marlins (2024-25) and White Sox (2025-26).
Detroit selected Hill in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2014 MLB Draft.
Campbell, 23, batted .216 with seven homers and 31 RBIs in 55 games for Philadelphia's Double-A Reading ballclub. The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Campbell in the fourth round of the 2023 draft and traded him to Philadelphia in January 2025.
Colmenares, 24, batted .278 with three homers and 19 RBIs in 36 games for High-Class A Jersey Shore this season. The Venezuela native has been on the injured list since May 25 with an ulnar collateral ligament injury in his right thumb.
Rutledge, 27, allowed seven runs in 1 1/3 innings in one relief appearance for the Washington Nationals this season before the Phillies selected him off waivers on May 10. He was 0-0 with a 7.20 ERA in five innings over five relief appearances at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Washington selected him in the first round (17th overall) in the 2019 draft, and he was 5-3 with a 6.29 ERA in 103 innings over 71 games (five starts) in parts of four seasons from 2023-26.
